The End of a Good Year

It’s almost the end of 2010 and the year seemed to fly by.  It was a very good year with lots of time spent with family and friends.

The day after Thanksgiving, I went to Chicago with Michelle and the girls for Oireachtas,

the big Irish dancing competition.  We stayed at the Marriot in a great suite,

thanks to Adam.  Before I left Toledo to go home, I decided to do a little shopping.  I found a new Christmas tree

at The Andersons and bought a few Christmas presents.  When I got out all the Christmas decorations, I found out it was a good thing I had bought a new tree – I realized I threw away our old tree last year and then forgot about it!  The new tree is great – prelit and skinny – so there’s plenty of room to walk past it without running into it.

John and I went to Peyton’s Christmas sing-a-long at his school on the 16th,

then Lois and I went shopping for the rest of the day and got a lot of our shopping finished.

Christmas Eve was spent differently than usual this year.  Amy was too sick with bronchitis and had to cancel our traditional party at her house.  Megan’s favorite part of Christmas is the party at their house, and she said she would give up all her gifts if they could still have the party, but her mommy was just too sick.  Bubba and Sayaka got to our house that evening and we spent quite a bit of time upstairs wrapping presents and talking.

Christmas morning, we took our time getting up and around.  We only opened a present or two before Jeremy, Lois, and Peyton arrived shortly before noon.

We still didn’t open many presents before Jessica and Adam arrived at about 12:30.  We leisurely opened the rest of the gifts and finally got around to eating our traditional morning meal – ham, eggs, and toast.  Bubba and Jeremy enjoyed playing Peyton’s new guitar and later on, Peyton started playing it too.

We played Scattergories and had a great time.

By Sunday, Amy was feeling well enough that we went to her house for the afternoon.  We opened presents

and visited and after Jess and Adam and Bubba and Sayaka left, Amy and I played the new Yahtzee card game with Megan and Abby.  Abby gave up early so the three of us finished the game and Megan won!

Tuesday morning, John and I packed up and headed for Ashland to see our parents.  We made a detour to MicroCenter in Cleveland to look at printers and some items to help John record music more easily.  The guy in the printer department was a real talker and an “expert” and I couldn’t get a word in edgewise!  Several times I zoned out and didn’t even listen to him telling me the new printer I had already bought was great and the problems I’m having are because of the way I take pictures!  I don’t agree with him at all but I was still interested in finding out information about why my old printer is printing out bright green hair!

We spent a nice evening with Mom, Leroy, and Leslie but had an unsatisfactory trip to see Grandpa Fred the next morning.  We couldn’t get him to wake up long enough to have a conversation with him.  We went back to Mom’s where we had Jones’ potato chips and DorLo pizza!

Today I’ve had a very lazy day and I loved it!  I actually read an entire book and just relaxed.  Tomorrow I need to get busy though and get the house cleaned.  I’ve heard the Chinese clean their houses thoroughly before Chinese New Year’s to sweep out the old and welcome the new year and it sounds like a good idea to me.  I won’t have time tomorrow to thoroughly clean but I can hopefully get a lot accomplished.

John and his brothers and two of our sons have a pact that starts on New Year’s Day.  They are all going to try to lose weight and exercise in preparation for GOBA so they will all be in good shape and be healthy – a great idea.  I’m still trying to decide what New Year’s resolutions I’d like to make…
