I’m trying to be productive…
I’ve finished a couple projects…
I finished some Christmas sewing – from last year…
I made a quick hat…
I spent some time with family…
I was seen with a handsome dude in a suit…
Looking forward to some relaxing time off work, spent with family, and thanking God for many blessings!
The sewing bug has got me spending time at my machine! After the intricacies of the costumes I made for Halloween, I had fun tonight making fleece diaper covers – seven of them. Two are definitely nighttime covers (double layered) and two are for daytime (single layered) and the other three are in between. I sewed a fitted piece of fleece into the areas most likely to get wet.
As usual, I’ve been knitting too. Abby wanted to wear her mommy’s hat so I made her one with a flower – just like Mommy’s – in Abby’s new favorite color green.
After two weeks of coming home from work and sewing all evening, the costumes are finally finished. Megan’s vampire dress took quite a while because of all the layers of fabric and all the gathering. I was pleased to see how well the dress fits her!
I also made a hooded cape, whose size was totally based on how much leftover fabric I had.
When we shopped for Abby’s costume fabric, I didn’t have a clear idea what the dress was supposed to look like. After Amy sent me a link for the Barbie and the Rock Star movie, I realized I didn’t have the right pattern or enough fabric to make the dress she wanted. I decided to do the best I could with what I had, and ended up with a dress she really seems to like.
She liked it so well, she wore it all afternoon!
I especially like her belt and would like to make several more from this pattern!
Trick or Treat has been postponed because of Hurricane Sandy. I’m going to enjoy a day off tomorrow, also thanks to Sandy!
Little Bo Peep wore her dress to a birthday party.
Later, Mommy washed her costume and the ribbon on her hat raveled!
What do you get for $.99? A pattern on sale, fabric and notions from a stash, and lots of love from a grandma.
I’ve also been knitting a lot.
I’m getting back into the school routine – work all day, then come home and collapse. So far this school year I’m in Biology and Algebra II classes and mainly help students with these subjects. We’ve had some sweltering hot days but have had much cooler temperatures this week, which makes it more conducive to paying attention and learning!
I’ve become involved with a couple knitting projects – a shawl knit-along and a test knit for a cowl.
The cowl yarn is two colors of Malabrigo and works up quickly.
My shawl is the Quaker Ridge Shawl pattern and the yarn is Madelintosh Pashmina, a very soft yarn.
Along with knitting, I’ve been doing a lot of reading. I finished Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand recently and just started Sweet Talk by Julie Garwood last night. I like to read fiction for pleasure so I can relax and enjoy it – and I don’t have to concentrate to be sure I don’t miss anything important!
Aren’t grand kids great?!?
I’m trying!!! to link my blog to Ginny’s Yarn Along but I have to learn how! Maybe I should get on my computer instead of my iPad because I know how to copy and paste there…
This morning I thought I’d take a couple pictures of my yard.
This blob is something I’m being careful of, actually scared of! It’s a huge white-faced hornets’ nest. Jeremy, our family bug man, told me they’re getting ready for winter and their larva will be left inside this nest. John would like to keep this – but I hope he’ll be able to kill off the future hornets in it if he plans to display it in his garage!
I’ve had this little birdhouse in my flowerbed for quite a few years and still really like it! There is a little mystery about it…I quite often find it laying on its side. My guess is that I think groundhogs must like to knock it over!
These are the prettiest flowers on my porch this year. This has not been a good year for my flowers since I’ve been gone so much and haven’t spent nearly enough time gardening. There’s always next year…
After cleaning some more kitchen cupboards today, I escaped to my studio to sew! I’m appliqueing Audrey’s quilt top.
John’s having a rough time working on his old motorcycle. He plans to take it on a trip soon but has to get a lot of things fixed first.
This is actually the second picture I took of him – but the first was definitely a more accurate view – he was frowning. The reason he isn’t taking his newer motorcycle on the trip is that he has even more work to do on it!
I can finally walk out on our balcony again! The old floor was too rotted so John replaced it with repurposed wood he got from a friend. He still needs to replace the railing, but that can wait. The new floor was added while I was out in Toledo, not in the last few days!
Wow – John just rode the motorcycle up the hill!
Since I’ve been gone so much this summer, I’m happy to be able to stay home for most of August. I have lots of much-needed cleaning to do and I have some ideas to freshen up the house.
I renewed my interest in sewing in July when I made Audrey a cloth picture book
helped Becca make a comfy fleece blanket
and an adorable skirt.
I also got a good start on Audrey’s quilt. I’m making it larger than a baby quilt since she’s already one.
I have still been knitting, but not as much as usual because someone made it quite difficult!
Audrey liked looking at pictures of Mommy on my iPad.
Last week we went to the annual Acme family picnic, toured the plant and looked at some things Jeremy’s been working on.
Amy, the girls, and I went school shopping at the outlet mall where I found a cute purse that has inspired me to make some similar purses. The girls have been busy learning cheers and I’m anxious to watch them perform.
Well, back to cleaning the kitchen – – or – –
This is the first day of a heat wave and the kids are finding a way to keep cool!
Tomorrow is Megan’s tenth birthday so I made this bag for her.
Her main present will be a shopping trip probably next week. We’ve gone shopping the last couple years and we always have such a good time!
Last Sunday Abby wanted to make a prayer request at church for herself. She wanted people to pray for her so she could get a trampoline!
